All told, this trip cost me about US$11,000. The level I found myself traveling at was at the higher end of shoestring. I never set myself a hard budget for any country I visited. After a couple weeks in a country, I usually settled on what was a normal amount I needed to spend to be comfortable, and tried to stay within that. My approximate budgets for each country were:
